BASIC NEEDS OF PLANTS

 PLANTS NEED AIR
Ø  Plants need oxygen from the air for respiration .
Ø  Plants also need carbon dioxide from the air to make food.
Ø  Plants make food through photosynthesis.
Ø  Plants will die without air.

PLANTS NEED WATER
Ø  Plants absorb water from the soil through their roots.
Ø  Plants need water for:
·         Making food during photosynthesis
·         Transporting food and minerals to the plant tissues
·         Keeping the plants cells turgid

PLANTS NEED SUNLIGHT
Ø Green plants can make their own food through photosynthesis.
Ø Sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis.Without sunlight plants will die.
Ø Green leaves contain chlorophyll to trap sunlight.
Ø Sunlight provides the energy needed or water to combine with carbon dioxide to produce glucose in the leaves.Oxygen is produced as a by-product.
